Reporting To: Operations Manager, Power Systems

Through customized engineering, packaging, design and building complete control and switchgear systems with the latest technology, TOROMONT CAT POWER SYSTEMS has become an industry leader in the supply of Generators and Electric Power utilizing Caterpillar engines.   
 
Do you have high integrity and strong work ethic?  We are seeking a talented Buyer, Power Systems to manage procurement of over $30 million in purchases of non-traditional CAT products and services for the Power Systems Division in support of equipment sales projects, OEM equipment sales and product support. The Buyer, Power Systems will evaluate different suppliers for quality assurance to meet required industry certifications and also procure goods and services in a timely manner, while assuring lower costs, quality services and optimal vendor selection.

Key Accountabilities

  • Demonstrate safe, environmentally sound and healthy work behaviors in support of Toromont’s Health and Safety Policies, Programs and initiatives
  • Process and document purchase requisitions, issue purchase orders and follow up on order deliveries
  • Prepare requests for bids and searches for products for various commodities
  • Negotiate pricing agreements and identify and implement operational cost reductions
  • Implement standard terms and conditions based on supplier’s areas of operation
  • Process supplier invoices for payment ensuring accuracy and correct parts received prior to sending to Accounts Payable
  • Assess and select vendors and develop a supplier base for products and services
  • Establish purchasing contracts, agreements, calls for tenders and terms and conditions
  • Reinforce internal processes and settle disputes
  • Manage warranty claims process with suppliers

Key Qualifications

  • Post Secondary Education in Administration combined with 5 to 10 years experience in Procurement
  • College or a professional attestation or training in procurement
  • A SCMP (Supply Chain Management Professional) would be an asset
  • Safety conscious with Power Systems Technical Product and marketplace knowledge and industry purchasing experience
  • Strong negotiation, communication and interpersonal skills for effective outcomes with all parties/stakeholders (suppliers, project managers, direct reports, company leadership, finance, ISO auditors etc.)
  • Mindset for continuous improvement and customer centric with a good understanding of general business principles
  • Self-directed, independent team player with strong initiative
  • Organizational skills and ability to manage a multitude of projects simultaneously and establish priorities and make timely decisions in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment
  • Written and spoken communication skills in French and English
  • Computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications, DBS, SAP Software (ERP would be an asset)
