Reporting To: Engineering Manager

Through customized engineering, packaging, design and building complete control and switchgear systems with the latest technology, TOROMONT CAT POWER SYSTEMS has become an industry leader in the supply of Generators and Electric Power utilizing Caterpillar engines.   
 
Do you have high integrity and strong work ethic?  We are seeking a trained Mechanical Drafter to utilize design experience and technical knowledge to work with project teams developing and customizing products for our customers.

Key Accountabilities

  • Demonstrate safe, environmentally sound and healthy work behaviours at all times, in support of Toromont’s Health and Safety Policies, Programs and initiatives
  • Evaluate and interpret data and information leading to specialized conclusions and recommendations
  • Prepare engineering documents including preliminary designs, equipment specifications and layouts, bills of material and cost estimates
  • Produce 3D and 2D drawings for generator sets
  • Develop schematic designs for projects and report on critical aspects of the project
  • Review engineering and design documents and expedite procurement
  • Review and revise drawings/specifications and contract documents to ensure compliance with design requirements
  • Maintain comprehensive project file/records
  • Conduct quality and control testing and standardize drawing procedures on Autocad Electrical
  • Provide assistance and advice to our customers immediately preceding construction
  • Prepare operation and maintenance manuals as well as approval and production packages
  • Maintain comprehensive technical library and layout schematics
  • Provide general technical support to designers, technicians and customers for Toromont products and services
  • Visit the production facility to assess progress as related to the engineering documents
  • Arrange/attend project meetings and participate in process improvement and working methods
  • Train customers on the operation of the equipment

Key Qualifications

  • Post Secondary Education in Mechanical Design or Professional Certification in Technical Drafting with 10+ years’ experience in relevant field
  • Highly knowledgeable of mechanical, electrical, civil and industrial engineering fields
  • Experience with diesel engines in marine, rail and military fields would be highly beneficial
  • 5-7 years of related technical services and engineering experience
  • 3-5 years experience working with AutoCad Electrical and developing Electrical drawings
  • Experience with 2D/3D AutoCad and Inventor Drawing as well as 3D Visualisation skills
  • Knowledge of design for electrical control systems, development of control system sequence of operations, installation plans and test plans
  • General knowledge on mechanical components of engines, pulley, gears, pumps, ventilation, etc.
  • Knowledge of electrical symbols (CSA, ISO, etc.)
  • Strong desire to take automation experience and apply it to power plant control systems such as engine control systems, switchgear and remote monitoring systems
  • Highly customer centric and a strong team player with a sense of urgency
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with a proven ability to work effectively within cross functional teams
  • Attention to detail, efficient time-management and effective planning skills with the ability to quickly adapt to multiple and often changing schedules and priorities in a deadline driven environment
  • Self-directed with high integrity and initiative to be proactive in problem solving
  • Understanding of Building Codes and Toromont Operating Policies and Procedures would be an asset
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications including Excel, Word and Outlook (experience with DBS and SIS would be an asset)
  • Willing and able to travel as required and possess a valid Driver's Licence and clean Driver's Abstract
