Do you have high integrity and strong work ethic?  We are seeking an experienced Shovel and Technology Support Manager that will work in conjunction with the Customer, Toromont and Caterpillar to establish processes and best practices to improve the reliability and productivity of our mining rope and hydraulic shovel fleet. This Manager will be responsible for using planning, condition monitoring, technician training, asset strategy and parts forecasting to ensure the health and productivity of the shovel fleet. The successful candidate will also primarily be accountable for ensuring that there is an on-site trained team of individuals to support Tier 1 events and repairs for MineStar and other Technology Products.

Key Accountabilities

  • Model the way for safe, environmentally sound and healthy work behaviours in support of Toromont’s Health and Safety Policies, Programs and initiatives
  • Work closely with the Customer and Dealer to establish Gantt format planned events for all repairs to the rope and/or hydraulic shovels
  • Schedule future dated orders for long lead items and planned events, and ensure 90% market share for parts opportunities on rope and hydraulic shovels
  • Review stocking parameters and adjust based on the application and age of equipment
  • Conduct shovel assessments on regular visits to the Customer and review current application and operation techniques
  • Develop and maintain maintenance strategies for each shovel which includes a condition monitoring and product problem management program, and a component life cycle plan
  • In addition to establishing an off-board support program for technology products; developing a team of trained technicians for on-board equipment
  • Ensure that electrical technicians are up to date on all Rope and Hydraulic shovel electrical and electronic controls
  • Establish a set of reliability and productivity metrics to be tracked using the Customer’s data system and other manual systems
  • Work with the Dealer Technical Communicator to ensure the rolling Top 10 product issues at the mine sites are tracked with both Interim Corrective Actions and Permanent Corrective Actions
  • Complete regular field audits/observations to assess operating conditions/techniques and work with Mine Operations to ensure both categories meet or exceed industry standards

Key Qualifications

  • Post-Secondary Education in a mechanical or electrical field or equivalent combination of industry related experience
  • Highly safety conscious with 5+ years experience performing maintenance and condition monitoring on rope shovels and / or hydraulic shovels
  • Project Management and/or Consulting experience
  • Strong technical aptitude and solid understanding of Caterpillar product line
  • Knowledge of the MineStar technology product line is highly desirable
  • Insightful expertise in equipment life cycle and technical mining equipment with a mindset for continuous improvement
  • Customer centric with the ability to manage multiple and often competing projects in a fast paced, deadline driven environment
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead, coach and build teams
  • Strategic, self-driven professional with excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Applications and other customer programs
  • Bilingual in French and English would be an asset
  • A valid Driver's Licence and clean Driver's Abstract
