Reporting To: General Manager, Mining

Do you have high integrity and strong work ethic?  We are seeking an experienced Key Account Manager, Mining Business Development who will be responsible for improving our organization’s position in the market and achieving our financial growth targets while defining long-term strategic goals and build key customer relationships.

Key Accountabilities

  • Demonstrate safe, environmentally sound and healthy work behaviours at all times in support of Toromont’s Health and Safety Policies, Programs and initiatives
  • Strategically develop a pipeline of new business through comprehensive knowledge of our competitors and the solutions/services the Toromont can provide
  • Proactively engage and develop new business with regards to major projects such as Greenfield and Brownfield opportunities
  • Prepare quotes, technical submissions and customer responses to follow up
  • Actively participate in the development of Scoping and Feasibility studies for all Greenfield mining projects
  • Provide assistance to other Key Account Managers (KAM) and Senior Mining Leaders on projects not covered by KAMs to ensure major expansions and longevity of existing mines
  • Attend major mining events such as (but not limited to): CIM (Canadian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy) and PDAC (Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada)
  • Prospect and identify new customers by networking, cold calling, advertising or other means of generating interest from potential clients
  • Utilize sale planning tools and evaluate customer opportunities, marketplace opportunities and economic trends
  • Grow and retain existing accounts by presenting new solutions and services to customers
  • Prepare cost estimates for bidding purpose and submit to customers
  • Complete administrative portion of the role including, but not limited to Saleslink, IMACS, Quotelog, and other reporting to ensure good record keeping
  • Adhere to Company policy related to: call reports, lost sales reporting, product training, sales call planning, budgeting and expense policies
  • Create and monitor sales objectives in collaboration with the Mining Team and Local Branch Manager
  • Ensure that Caterpillar and Toromont CAT partnership agreements are executed in good faith by all organizations

Key Qualifications

  • Post-Secondary Education (mining, mechanical, geological engineering preferred) and 3+ years of experience in the mining/mineral industry
  • Solid knowledge of underground, surface mining equipment and operations processes (related WHMIS and Common Core training)
  • Technical industry knowledge related to mining processes and/or heavy mobile equipment
  • Highly safety conscious, customer-centric, flexible, diplomatic and collaborative with excellent presentation skills
  • Influential leader with strong negotiation, superior interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proven ability to develop and nurture trusted and long term partnerships internally, externally at all levels (mine operations to executive level)
  • Analytical with enhanced listening and problem solving skills, current on market conditions and business drivers
  • Deliver results in a fast-paced, demanding and deadline driven environment
  • Motivate others to adapt to changing priorities and environments
  • Solid business and financial acumen with a sense of urgency and attention to detail
  • Computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Applications and other customer programs
  • Bilingual (English & French) preferred
  • Willing and able to travel extensively throughout Canada and a valid Driver’s Licence and clean Driver's Abstract
