Reporting To: Operations Manager, Power Systems

Do you have high integrity and strong work ethic?  We are seeking a diligent Project Manager, Power Systems to lead the project execution team, from receipt of order through to completion and manage customer expectations, scheduling, design engineering, procurement, vendor communications, production work, testing, delivery, site commissioning, invoicing and handover to customer and product support. 

Key Accountabilities

  • Promote and demonstrate workplace safety, environmentally sound and healthy behaviours at all times in support of Toromont’s Health and Safety Policy, Programs and initiatives
  • Plan for project execution, by interpreting all related project documents (specifications, proposals, estimates, etc) and through discussions of the project strategy with the Account Managers and Sales Estimators
  • Identify areas where conflicts exist and discuss strategies with the project team to implement resolution
  • Develop the project schedules and manage key milestones to meet and exceed customer expectations
  • Proactively address any issues associated with milestone requirements
  • Plan and coordinate internal work to meet project timelines
  • Meet with the project team on a regular basis to discuss progress and collaborate with them to correct any challenges
  • Use IMACS system to manage project budgets, track and update schedules
  • Manage project budget and issue purchase orders to meet overall project financials
  • Evaluate and discuss bids received for major equipment, with the market team
  • Ensure terms, conditions and technical requirements are clearly outlined in purchase documents with suppliers and partners
  • Discuss financials of the projects during regular team update meetings
  • Manage customer communication and project reporting using IMACS and other applicable Toromont systems
  • Conduct project meetings (kick-off, progress, post mortems) with the customers and project teams to review all facets of the project execution, assign accountabilities and project goals
  • Authorize and direct project submittals and other progress reports, transmittals and customer communication
  • Manage quality assurance and testing of products and services supplied as a part of any project 
  • Interact with Technical Support Manager and Customer Service Reps to ensure commissioning is completed to meet customer expectations
  • Develop test procedures for factory acceptance, site acceptance and training plans to meet customer requirements and ensure safe and reliable operation of equipment

Key Qualifications

  • Post Secondary Education (Engineering/Applied Science Degree) and relevant project management experience or designation
  • 5 years of related engineering and electric power industry experience with specific knowledge of mechanical, electrical, fields
  • Experience developing, comprehending and implementing short, medium and long term objectives
  • Capacity to develop solid relationships and communicate effectively throughout the organization and with customers and external business partners including senior executives and branch managers through to technicians and engineers
  • Independent and self-directed with a sense of urgency and effective leadership
  • Effective decision making, judgment and analytical skills with strong attention to detail
  • Efficient planning and organizational skills with the ability to effectively achieve results in a fast-paced, demanding, customer-driven environment with multiple and often competing priorities
  • Strong business acumen and a good understanding of general business principles specifically, financial aspects
  • Experience with company operating policies and guidelines for successful project completion and integration
  • Strong computer and systems proficiencies with Excel and Word
  • Willing and able to work flexible hours in support of the business needs
