Reporting To: Lab Supervisor

If you have high integrity and a strong work ethic, we want you on our team. We are seeking a talented Laboratory Technician to collaborate with the Fluid Analysis Lab Team, regularly to provide timely and accurate completion of all fluid testing and handling procedures, while maintaining a 24 hour turn-around service of all laboratory functions.

Key Accountabilities

  • Demonstrate safe, environmentally sound and healthy work behaviours at all times, in support of Toromont’s Health and Safety Policies, Programs and initiatives

  • Receive and prepare samples for analysis

  • Perform analysis via ICP and FTIR Spectrometers
  • Test oil samples for fuel, water and glycol contamination
  • Perform particle count analysis and viscosity tests on oil samples
  • Perform TBN and TAN testing on oil samples
  • Test coolant samples for PH, glycol, conductivity and nitrites
  • Calibrate and perform maintenance on all laboratory equipment 
  • Monitor status of inventory and maintain neat and clean appearance of lab on daily basis
  • Conduct proper disposal of daily waste and sort material for reuse or recycling
  • Perform and complete periodic checklists to maintain efficiency and quality

Key Qualifications

  • Post Secondary Education with a chemistry/sciences related focus and 2+ years equivalent experience in a laboratory
  • Hands on experience with laboratory equipment (ICP, FTIR, GC) would be an asset
  • Customer centric with strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Self motivated with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Team player with the ability to prioritize urgent tasks in a fast paced environment
  • Adaptable and able to meet deadlines with a high sense of urgency
  • Ability to lift up to 25kg on occasion
  • Willing and able to wear and use a respirator
  • Willing and able to work flexible shifts to meet the demands of the business, including afternoon shifts and weekends when required
  • Computer literate with proficiencies in Microsoft Office: Word, Outlook, and Excel
