Through customized engineering, packaging, design and building complete control and switchgear systems with the latest technology, TOROMONT CAT POWER SYSTEMS has become an industry leader in the supply of Generators and Electric Power utilizing Caterpillar engines.   
 
Do you have high integrity and strong work ethic?  We are seeking a trained Electrical Engineer to utilize their design experience and knowledge of generator based power systems and controls of PLC systems to gain success in the electrical power business. This intermediate Electrical Engineer will leverage their experience to fill technical gaps in projects by working with customers to ensure technical goals, set budgets and schedules are met.   The right candidate for this position will have a strong desire to take engineering experience and apply it to power plant control systems such as engine control systems, switchgear and remote monitoring systems to perform design, field installation and commissioning services combined.

Key Accountabilities

  • Demonstrate safe, environmentally sound and healthy work behaviours at all times, in support of Toromont’s Health and Safety Policies, Programs and initiatives
  • Develop detailed electrical designs, PLC software and HMI programming, test plans, bills of material, Electrical AutoCad drawings and test plans, field commissioning and support proposal evaluations
  • Manage internal or external manufacturing and provide troubleshooting
  • Travel to project sites for field commissioning and project support
  • Provide support for equipment that is designed and manufactured internally or externally
  • Coordinate the activities of engineering and drafting teams as it relates to the execution of assigned projects
  • Manage project timelines and budgets in accordance to project meetings and communicate project change requests to the Supervisor
  • Perform project management duties on smaller retrofit projects
  • Analyze problems and failures on existing projects and provide assistance to the Field Service Department, specific to retrofits
  • Leverage experience to fill in technical gaps in projects by working with our customers to ensure technical goals, budgets and schedules are met
  • Perform design and field installation and commissioning services combined

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in Engineering (Electrical) or Technologist and a minimum of 5 to 10 years’ experience in relevant field
  • Minimum of 5++ years of PLC Programming and in field commissioning (experience in automation/PLC programming in the field is mandatory)
  • Experience working with AutoCad and developing Electrical drawings is mandatory
  • Knowledge of design for electrical control systems, development of control system sequence of operations, installation plans and test plans
  • Understanding multiple PLC platforms, Allen Bradley, GE, Omron, Modicon, CSA and Electrical codes is essential as is the communication protocols such as Modbus and Canbus
  • Strong desire to take automation experience and apply it to power plant control systems such as engine control systems, switchgear and remote monitoring systems
  • Knowledge of generator synchronization systems and support controls would be an asset
  • Highly customer centric and a strong team player with a sense of urgency
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with a proven ability to work effectively within cross functional teams
  • Attention to detail, efficient time-management and effective planning skills with the ability to quickly adapt to multiple and often changing schedules and priorities in a deadline driven environment
  • Self-directed with high integrity and initiative to be proactive in problem solving
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications including Excel, Word and Outlook (experience with DBS and SIS would be an asset)
  • Willing and able to travel regularly and work flexible hours in support of the business
