Reporting To: Corporate Product Support Mining Manager

Do you have high integrity and strong work ethic?  We are seeking a Shovel Support Specialist who will partner with the Customer, Toromont and Caterpillar to establish processes and best practices to improve the reliability and productivity of a mining rope shovel and hydraulic shovel fleet. Using condition monitoring, planning, scheduling and reliability centered maintenance techniques, the project team will focus on achieving operational and reliability targets on a daily, weekly, monthly and yearly basis, while implementing for the lowest operating cost per tonne solutions and continuous improvements.

Key Accountabilities

  • Participate in workplace safety, environmentally sound and healthy behaviours and objectives at all times in support of Toromont’s and the mine owner’s Health and Safety Policy/Programs and initiatives
  • Work closely with the Customer and Dealer to establish Gantt format planned events for all repairs to the rope or hydraulic shovels including preventative maintenance
  • Review Customer / Dealer / Caterpillar stocking parameters and adjust based on the application and age of equipment
  • Schedule future dated orders for long lead items and planned events and ensure 90% market share for parts opportunities on rope shovels and hydraulic shovels
  • Conduct shovel assessments on regular visits to the Customer and review current application and operation techniques to link to improved productivity or reduced maintenance opportunities
  • Through the collection of various data sources (SOS, work order history, electronic data, cycle times, vibration testing, NDE testing), create a condition monitor program for the shovels to predict future repairs or problem areas
  • Work with the Dealer Technical Communicator to ensure the top 10 product issues at the mine sites are tracked with both Interim Corrective Actions and Permanent Corrective Actions
  • Establish a set of reliability and productivity metrics to be tracked using the Customer’s data system and other manual systems
  • Maintain weekly and monthly summary reports reviewing both past events and predicted future events as part of the update process

Key Qualifications

  • Post-Secondary Education in a mechanical or electrical field or equivalent combination of industry related experience
  • 5+ years experience performing maintenance and condition monitoring on rope shovels and / or hydraulic shovels
  • Strong technical aptitude and solid understanding of Caterpillar product line
  • Exceptional project planning and organizational skills
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to deal with cross functional teams and customers at all levels
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships while focusing on achieving results
  • Strategic, self-driven professional with excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Safety conscious, customer centric with the ability to manage multiple and often competing projects in a fast paced, deadline driven environment
  • Computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Applications and other customer programs
  • A valid Driver's Licence and clean Driver's Abstract
