Reporting To: Service Training Supervisor

Do you have high integrity and strong work ethic?  We are seeking an experienced Training Instructor, Electric Power who will be responsible for identifying training requirements, both inside and outside the company, related to Caterpillar’s Electric Power Product Line.  Working both independently and with a team, the Training Instructor, Electric Power will further advance the training department’s ability to provide superior training to our customers by travelling to customer sites as required and ensuring continued development of Toromont’s workforce.

Key Accountabilities

  • Model the way for safe, environmentally sound and healthy work behaviors in support of Toromont’s Health and Safety Policies, Programs and initiatives
  • Prepare, schedule and present training courses and seminars to customers and technicians for Cat’s Electric Power product line for customers and technicians
  • Remain current with the Cat electric power product lines through individual and formal training as required with changing electric power technology
  • Communicate regularly, with the other Service Training Instructors, the Apprenticeship Training Coordinators, Shop Supervisors, Service Managers, Sales Teams and Customers to identify training requirements, development and maintain course schedules
  • Schedule, utilize and maintain the training department’s classrooms, training bay, tools, projectors and equipment to ensure sound management of resources
  • Perform training department administrative tasks, including preparing evaluations, reports, debits, invoicing and any other tasks provided by the Service Training Supervisor

Key Qualifications

  • Post Secondary Education with a focus on Prime Mover and Power Generation Technology with 5-10 years industry experience and highly safety conscious
  • Provincial Truck and Coach Certification or Heavy Equipment Technician Licence or equivalent with solid understanding of diesel and gas engines, power fundamentals and electric controls
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience diagnosing, troubleshooting and repairing Caterpillar's Electric Power equipment, preferably with experience as a Lead Hand, Field Service Technician or other Technical Supervisory positions
  • Proficient with Toromont Cat tools and software such as Electronic Technician, Service Technician Workbench, DBS, Service Scheduler and SIS
  • Superior communication and interpersonal skills with effective leadership and coaching capabilities
  • Mindset continuous improvement and highly developed analytical, time management and organizational skills
  • Customer centric with strong team building skills and an emphasis on service functions
  • Self-motivated and adaptable with a sense of urgency to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Solid business and financial acumen with high integrity and the ability to collaborate at all levels of the organization and with the customers
  • Flexible addressing multiple priorities with effective planning strategies and current on the market conditions
  • Results driven with proven commitment to deliver internal and external service excellence continuously
  • Comprehensive computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Willing and able to travel for work outside regular business hours and extensively throughout Canada and the U.S. as required
  • Valid Passport and Driver’s Licence with current Clean Driver's Abstract
